PLANS for Malvern's Golden Jubilee celebrations are nearing completion.

The town council's Jubilee working party has been meeting regularly in preparation for the Victoria Park extravaganza on June 4.

Apart from organisational details such as marquees, security and catering, members are busy putting the finishing touches to a full timetable of activities.

Local schools have been asked to submit the names of their 'kindest' boy and girl to be king and queen for the day, complete with full regalia. A crown made out of recycled material will also to made by pupils.

The closing date for entries was Wednesday (May 15) and the working party will now judge submissions.

Whoever the 'royal guests' may be on the big day, they will be able to watch a skateboarding exhibition and, in conjunction with Malvern Football League, a five-a-side football com- petition.

The town's Army Cadets have confirmed that they will take part in a marching competition, along with The Lynx Marching Band, while younger revellers are also being invited to put together the 'fastest and prettiest' entries they can for a sedan chair race.

Music and dance will, of course, play a part in the celebrations with belly, line and salsa dancers all on standby for the big day.

Malvern Fringe will also have an extensive programme of events taking place in its own Fringe Tent. Brass bands will play and there will be a karaoke/talent show.

Fun and games take the form of tug-of-war, musical chairs, fancy dress and a 'guess the baby' competitions.

Revellers will also be asked to get creative and contribute to some lasting memories on the day.

A Jubilee sculpture is to be created as a spectacle during the event and local firms have already donated materials for a mural. People will be invited to paint individual sections and the mural will then be hung in Malvern Town Council offices.
