HUNDREDS of runners are expected to join in the 4th annual Warndon Parish Council Fun Run.

This year the run has been named the Jubilee Fun Run in recognition of the Queen's 50-year celebrations, and will be run just after the nation's celebrations, this year being on Sunday, June 9.

The number of entries received for this year's race have already equalled the number received this time last year for the 2001 Fun Run, when the total number of entries rocketed to 230.

"There was a brilliant atmosphere last year," said Les Bishop, clerk to Warndon Parish Council.

"It was nice day - it wasn't too hot. Everyone seemed to have fun."

This year's race will see runners complete either a 5km, 10km or 15km route, with a trophy for each distance. Every finisher gets a medal.

There is also a special short race for children aged under seven.

"We're really looking forward to a great day," said Mr Bishop.

"There will be lots happening and a fun day is guaranteed for everyone."

Starting off at Lyppard Grange Community Centre, the route will take in roads and footpaths around Warndon Villages, including running through the grounds of St Nicholas Church.

The entry fee is £4 for adults and £2 for children under 16. Monies raised will go towards St Richard's Hospice, Worcester, and Worcester Lifestyles.

Those wishing to enter - whether runners, joggers or walkers - should pick up an entry form from Lyppard Grange Community Centre or phone Camba Events, who are helping to organise the run, on 0121 358 4483.

Volunteers are also being sought to act as marshals.
