WORCESTER Rugby Club will have a new captain next season after the release of Kingsley Jones.

The 31-year-old has been told he has no future at the club by director of rugby John Brain and will now return to his native Wales.

Jones, who came to Sixways last summer, has a number of clubs vying for his services including Pontypridd, Swansea and Ebbw Vale.

The former Welsh skipper was disappointed not to be part of Worcester's National One campaign next season.

"John Brain made it clear that I wasn't part of his plans for next season," he said.

"I was surprised when he told me and I'm very sad to leave because I dropped down a division to come to Worcester when I still had a year left on my contract at Gloucester.

"I came to Sixways for the challenge and unfortunately, it hasn't worked out.

"I'd have liked to make a bigger impression as for much of the season I've suffered with injuries and played with them so the supporters haven't seen the best of me."

The flanker was full of praise, though, for chairman Cecil Duckworth and the club as it looks to win a place in the Premiership next season.

"I'd like to wish them all the best for next season, the chairman, the players and the supporters," added Jones.

"I hope they can get into the Premiership next year because it may well be the last chance they get.

"I think it will benefit Worcester that Rotherham didn't go up because if somebody had come down it would have been incredibly difficult next season."

Jones left the door open for a possible return to Sixways in a coaching capacity.

"I'm already a level three coach and hope to get to level four and possibly take a Masters soon," he said. "I'd come back to Worcester in any shape or form to help them."
