A NIMBLE-fingered granny has managed to make the most of her new-found skill by making dozens of tapestries.

Winifred Poole said she never had a hobby until 10 years ago when she discovered some tapestry patterns from a book.

Since then, the 83-year-old has made dozens of tapestries which adorn her front living room walls.

The grandmother of five has also made tapestries for her family, and has even started making them for her neighbours.

"It's good to do something that keeps my mind active," said Mrs Poole.

"I love to make them and have just made one for a lady who has moved next door."

Mrs Poole said she began her new hobby when she moved into her new address in Grosvenor Walk, St John's, Worcester about 10 years ago, just after her husband Alfred passed away.

After finding some old tapestry patterns in a book she began making up pictures of cottages in spring, summer, autumn and winter.

Since then Mrs Poole has created pictures of all sizes including winter landscapes, a poppy field, animals and birds.

"The longest one I took to make was eight months because I put a lot of work into it," she said.

"It was a winter landscape."

Mrs Poole, who used to work for Kays said she normally did her tapestries at night but she did not know if she would part with any if someone asked to buy them.

"My family are fascinated by them and I have made animal tapestries for my grandchildren," she said.

"I haven't got a favourite but I know that my husband would have loved them.

"I didn't have any hobbies when I was younger and I'm glad I have a hobby now as I really enjoy it."
