A HEREFORD garden centre chain has continued its expansion with the purchase of another site.

The acquisition of Auldene Garden Centre, in Lancashire, brings the number of centres owned and operated by Wyevale Garden Centres to 122.

The company started in 1961 with one centre, in Kings Acre Road, Hereford, and has grown during the past 30 years through a strategy of aggressive acquisition.

"Auldene is a long-established garden centre with an excellent reputation for its product range, expertise and customer service," said Robert Hewitt, Wyevale's chief executive.

"The centre is located in a good catchment area and has the potential for continued growth."

He added that the acquisition was in line with Wyevale's expansion strategy, which was to acquire trading garden centres, redevelop and refurbish existing centres and acquire greenfield sites to develop new ones.
