A CROWD of more than 200 saw Worcester City Amateur Boxing Club stage its annual dinner tournament at Worcester Rugby Club.

The tournament consisted of 14 exciting contests, which included six boxers from the Worcester club who achieved mixed results.

Worcester schoolboy Na-thon Smith boxed a close bout against David Cozens of Penhill in which his persistent left jabs and counter-punching earned him a majority points decision from the judges.

Following this contest were two boxers who both held championships. Worcester's Wilton Johns, the Midland Counties Schoolboy champion was matched against the Welsh Schoolboy Champion Michael McAllister.

This was another close bout with everything resting on the last round.

Control

Johns managed to gain control and secure the bout on all three judges cards.

The 'local derby' of the evening again featured a win for Worcester when John Doe used his aggressive attacking style against the more orthodox Tony Hodgkins from hereford. Doe won a split decision from the judges.

Also representing Wor-cester were J. Butler, J. Davies and D. Shuler who all lost on points.
