A PARK-and-ride facility is the latest plan for a piece of land that has already attracted controversy and much speculation.

Grove Farm, a 19-hectare green field site on the outskirts of St John's, Worcester, could be the location for the interchange hub - on top of proposals already revealed to build 27 office blocks and industrial units on the site to cater for 3,000 workers.

The area is one option to be considered by Worcestershire County Council's Cabinet tomorrow which will also look at sites at Bransford Road and Earls Court Farm.

The Grove Farm solution seems to be the most popular with a report given to councillors highlighting the benefits of the area.

It reads: "The allocated employment site at Grove Farm is likely to generate 2,000 plus jobs with related travel outbound from the city and west of Worcester.

"It would benefit local residents in a similar way that the Worcester Express bus service has achieved from Perdiswell."

Councillor Derek Prodger, a cabinet member, said the decision was still up for debate, and nothing was being taken as read.

He added: "We want to make sure that any site is well used and that it goes ahead with the backing of all local councillors - their views are very important to me."

However, Leesa Laird, of Grove Farm Residents Voice, was not so sure their views would count. She said: "I think the planning application already put in is far too much to try to create on this site and now we have a proposal for a park and ride. This would just add to things like traffic concerns.

"It looks like the council will move the proposed park and ride site to Grove Farm without consulting the local community."

The council has assured residents that if the plan is given the go-ahead by the cabinet, a public consultation will be launched.

l Another controversial park-and-ride plan is still under discussion, the county council says.

Its bid to build a facility beside the RNIB college in Whittington Road, Worcester, is no closer to being decided, it has been revealed.

The proposal has been on the table for three years and has been opposed by both Worcester City Council and people living nearby.
