THE Liberal Democrats have maintained their stronghold on Alcester in the Stratford District Council elections.

Councillors Susan Juned, Clifford Meade and Pamela Price all retained their seats.

Liberal Democrat Lynn Charles Bowring was elected to the Kinwarton ward, beating Conservative Sylvia Hyde.

Liberal Democrat Sheila Ribbans stood down from Kinwarton to stand in the Brailes ward but was defeated.

This was the first time in 28 years all 53 Stratford seats were being contested and the count was conducted through an electronic voting and counting system.

The number of seats has recently been reduced following a ward boundary review in the county.
