AN action movie made by a local film-maker and set on the Malvern Hills could be set for success in the USA after attracting interest from an American distributor.

The Beacon was shot by former Chase pupil Neil Oseman during 2001 and released on VHS and DVD earlier this year. The Hereford-based director, who used to live in Malvern, has been selling copies through the film's website, but now a US company has taken an interest in making the film available on video throughout the States, although no deal has been signed.

Neil is now working on his next project, a remake of his 2000 short film Soul Searcher. He has teamed up with London-based producer/co-writer James Clarke, who last year was shortlisted as a BAFTA nominee for Best Short Film.

The plot follows Joe, a street sweeper who is offered the job of Death by an ailing Grim Reaper. The script is currently in development, and Neil said he hopes to shoot in Hereford over the summer, in time for a spring/summer 2003 release.
