new chairs costing £14,000 were delivered to Upton Parish Church this week.
Their arrival was the culmination of a year of donations, sponsorship and fundraising begun after churchgoers decided that the old chairs, which have been used 120 years, were no longer fit to be sat on.
The chairs came all the way from Poland and are now in the nave.
"We're very, very pleased," said churchwarden Olive Latham.
"It was one of the happiest days of my life when they arrived. It's quite an exciting time."
The chairs, which cost around £85 each, are made of stained beech wood, with red upholstery.
The church is now appealing for funds to buy chairs for the chancel. It is estimated that to fill the chancel with chairs will cost between £4,000 and £6,000.
