BOUGHTON Park Golf Club's new captain Roy Stevens started his reign with the traditional captain's drive in and member Stuart Band collected the ball to win a bottle of whisky.
Don Warner and Maurice Dutfield won the captain's fourball betterball stableford with 45pts.
Roy is one of three generations striding the fairways at the St John's club along with his two sons and grandson, and has been a member for 17 years, playing off a handicap of10.
As an 18-year-old Roy joined the Household Cavalry and took part in numerous ceremonial duties in London including mounting the guard on Horse Guard's Parade and Trooping the Colour.
He left four years later to pursue a career in the oil industry and when younger played a variety of sports including tennis, squash and football which he stopped when 'they gave me up".
Now 66 and enjoying retirement Roy is relishing the chance of captaining one of Worcestershire's most established clubs.
"It was suggested a few years ago that I might like to be captain and now that I've settled down into retirement I'm very proud to do it," he said.
