THIS afternoon at 3.15pm at Longdon St Mary's School playground, the PFA will be holding a cake sale. It is the turn of Oak and Acorn class to produce the cakes, biscuits, flowers and other produce for sale. All are welcome.

The service at St Mary's Church on Sunday, May 5, will be Holy Communion at 11.15am including hymns and an address and using the Common Worship Order. Bridge Builders, the benefice Sunday School for children aged 5-12 years, will be meeting in Longdon Vicarage.

In the afternoon parishioners are invited to celebrate Rogation Sunday at Hillend Court and Farm, with the kind permission of Bryan and Margaret Smith. A traditional walk through the farm will begin at 4pm taking in the barn, cornfields, meadow or pasture, well or stream and gardens or orchard. At each stopping point a Bible passage will be read and prayers said for the farming industry. This is an opportunity to gather in prayer for our farming friends and to express solidarity with their continuing plight. The Rogation Walk will be followed by a bring-and-share tea in the farmhouse.

On Wednesday, May 8, a circular social walk around Longdon is being organised by the school PFA. This will start at 9.30am from the playground. It will not be strenuous but will, it is hoped, be fun for new and old parents and friends alike: an opportunity to get to know each other (and to keep fit!). On returning to school coffee and cake will be served. The aim is to raise money for long-sleeved waterproof aprons for the children (and hopefully an end to permanently stained uniforms). The organisers hope to see as many people as possible.

On Thursday, May 9, parishioners are invited to celebrate Ascension Day at a Service of Holy Communion at Kempsey Parish Church starting at 7.30pm and followed by light refreshments. This is open to all churches in Upton Deanery.
