IT was confirmed last week that Bosbury School pupils not only move fast on the football field but also on the chess board. Three pupils: Zac Beattie, Robin Minchall and Ross Millar are through to the next round of the British Land UK Chess Challenge, which his being held at Wellington, Telford tomorrow (Saturday). This is one of 27 megafinals taking place all over the country following a tremendous year for UK Chess Challenge with 56,000 players participating in the competition. During a presentation of a medal to Robin Minchall by the chairman of the governors, the headmistress Mrs Judy Cecil congratulated all who had taken part and stressed the value of after school clubs which enable the children to develop new interests. The Chess Club is one of several clubs and the pupils are coached by Mr Trevor Ward who was delighted by their success.

The 11 o'clock service at Holy Trinity Bosbury on Rogation Sunday, May 5, will follow a traditional pattern. A walk to the boundaries of fields and farms in the area around the church, asking for God's blessing on the crops, animals, farmers and workers, giving thanks for the creation and all those who have worked the land before us. Prayers will be said and hymns sung during the walk. Another important date in the Christian calendar is Ascension Day, Thursday, May 9. Two services will be celebrated at Bosbury, 7am 1662 Book of Common Prayer Holy Communion (said) followed for those who wish by breakfast at the Vicarage or you may join at 8m just for breakfast. In the evening at 7pm Holy Communion according to Common Worship when we will be joined by other churches in the Ledbury Team Ministry and gathered choirs. The team rector Preb Colin Beevers will be preaching.
