BOTH teams were competing against a gale force wind in this Mercian Elgar U15s Junior League game.

WELLAND JUNIORS 2, EVESHAM UTD 2

After 30 minutes of scrappy play the deadlock was finally broken by Welland's Gareth Witts.

Fifteen minutes into the second half Gerald Chance made it 2-0 to Welland but in scoring collided heavily with the goalkeeper and the game was held up for ten minutes. Unfortunately the delay knocked Welland out of their stride and Evesham, quickly back into the pace of the game, cashed in on Welland's indecisive play with two scrambled goals. With two minutes remaining Welland's Tom Holland struck a superb shot from fully 25 yards into the top corner of the net - a glorious effort that was disallowed for offside elsewhere on the pitch, and the final score remained at 2-2.

Man of the match was James Smith.

MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS 10, BROCKHAMPTON BADGERS 1

WITH several players rested for the forthcoming cup final Malvern Town Wanderers recorded their highest goal tally of the season in this Mercian Elgar U13s Junior League match.

After five minutes Zach Blood spotted the keeper off his line and Micky Dicapita made no mistake following up from close range. Matt Hopwood's clinical left foot finish made it two. The flood gates opened for Micky Dicapita to slot in his second. Matt Hopwood's pin point corner picked out Luke Arnold to drive home from six yards out. Number five came on the half hour as Zach Blod picked himself up after being upended to finish confidently from the penalty spot. Tom Chadney's guided header saw Matt Hopwood making no mistake for number six at the interval.

The second half was much the same as Matt Hopwood's corner was headed home at the far post by Michael Pearson. Skipper Tom Chadney made it number eight finished tidily from close range. The lively Rob Leccese was the latest to find the net rounding the last defender and the keeper in fine fashion. Top scorer Micky Dicapita completed the scoring for his hat-trick and Wanderers' tenth before the visitors grabbed a consolation goal.

Man of the match was Michael Pearson.

NEWTOWN SPORTS 4,

WELLAND JUNIORS 1

FOR their final Mercian Elgar Under 13 League game of the season Welland visited local rivals Newtown and were unable to recapture their form of a few weeks ago when they had beaten their hosts in the cup.

Although the game was more even than the score suggests there was no disputing that Newtown deserved the three points and this win ensured that they will finish above Welland in the final placings.

The Welland goal was scored by Josh Brentnall and the Welland man of the match was Richard Pitt.

Welland are reminded of their charity game against Welland Truly Shattered in aid of the the Acorns Hospice tomorrow (Saturday) at the Hill in Upton, kick off 10.30am.

NEWTOWN SPORTS BOYS 1, NEWTOWN SPORTS JUNIORS 2

IN their penultimate game of the season, with second place still up for grabs, Newtown Boys entertained Newtown Juniors in the Mercian Elgar U11s Junior League.

Marc Twinberrow was unlucky when his shot was scrambled away by the alert keeper. Craig Preece was the first to score for the Juniors when, from a throw in, he hit a low shot inside the near post and caught keeper Stuart Johnson by surprise. The Juniors' heads were up now and dominated the rest of the first half.

The second half was much the same end to end football. The second goal for the Juniors came from a corner, the ball coming up over the top, Lee Gittings on the far post got a good head on the ball beating Stuart Johnson. Set pieces dominated this hard fought game when the Boys hit a consolation goal. Ollie Lean's corner finding Lee Mason unmarked running in to volley home.

MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS 7, BROCKHAMPTON BADGERS 0

ANOTHER excellent team performance gave Malvern Town Wanderers a comprehensive victory over Brockhampton Badgers in their penultimate Mercian Elgar U10s Junior League fixture on Saturday.

Josh Asquith opened the scoring for the home team before Jack Bottomley set up Adam Mayo to score their second. Tenacious tackling and accurate distribution by Natalie Chadney and Bobs Mackichan ensured the visitors were unable to reduce the deficit before the interval.

In the second half Malvern increased their lead when Douglas Howie headed a rebound from the cross bar into the net. Minutes later he latched onto keeper Ben Wheeler's goal kick to score his second goal. Josh Ball dealt calmly with any threat from Brockhampton's forwards with his usual assured defending before Josh Asquith scored Malvern's fifth. Straight from the kick off Alex Wren intercepted the ball and ran through to score before capping an impressive display minutes later with another superbly taken goal.

NEWTOWN SPORTS U9s 0, LYPPARD RANGERS 0

NEWTOWN Sports secured the point needed to guarantee them the Mercian Elgar U9s championship when they entertained a determined Lyppard side on Saturday.

In a match spoilt by a strong crosswind and a hard and bumpy pitch, good flowing football was very difficult.

Newtown dominated proceedings throughout and it took some brave defending and agile goalkeeping to keep the ball out of the net. The closest Newtown came to breaking the deadlock was when Chris Parker's inswinging corner crashed against the crossbar and then Matt Wren's powerful drive was deflected inches wide. The Newtown defence was comfortable throughout and prompted the midfield and forwards with some astute passing but Lyppard remained firm.

With changes at halftime Newtown elected for the pace of Mallett and Turner up front. They were unable to break the Lyppard resolve with Mallett seeing two shots blocked whilst Turner could never loose the shackles of his man to man marker. The last five minutes saw Lyppard pose more of a threat but Carlen denied them any opportunity and it was Newtown who finished the game on top but they were unable to score. The final whistle saw the Newtown supporters howl with delight at the team's championship winning season.

Man of the match was Eric Carlen.

MARTLEY SPURS 2, MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS 2

WANDERERS hoped to end their Mercian Elgar Under 9 league season with a win but a much improved Martley Spurs team pushed them hard all the way.

Wanderers failed to produce many chances on the tight Martley pitch in a scrappy first half. Jonathan Howie and Jonathan Hughes worked hard in midfield and the defensive pair of Scott Rogers and Jordan Johnson made sure that Spurs were limited to one first half attack, which led to a penalty kick. Kit Holden, who had only just returned to the side after breaking his arm, pulled off a fine save to keep the score at half time at 0-0.

A much better second half had only just begun when Alex Stockwell surged through from midfield and scored with a great shot. Wanderers celebrations were soon cut short when Spurs equalised.

Back came Wanderers and a superb pass from Jack Probert found striker Adam Green, who brilliantly volleyed the ball home to restore the lead. Tom Dunn pushed forward and supplied some quality crosses from the left but Wanderers couldn't find that killer third goal. As Wanderers continued to press on they were hit on the break by a classic sucker punch from Spurs and the game finished all square.

Wanderers are now hoping that, after a run of five consecutive draws, they get back to winning ways in the cup final on May 12 at Langland Stadium.

Wanderers' man of the match was Kit Holden.
