A CONTROVERSIAL plan for a private gipsy caravan site at Leigh Sinton has been refused by district planners.

The proposal for a piece of land south west of Dragons Cross had raised a storm of protest from people in Leigh Sinton and was opposed by Leigh and Bransford Parish Council.

Despite the objections, Malvern Hills District Council (MHDC) planning officers said some of the problems were perceived rather than actual.

They felt that changing the use of the former paddock to a private gipsy site was in accordance with the Local Development Plan.

However, on the officers' recommendation, MHDC's northern area planning committee turned down the plan on highway safety grounds.

It was agreed that access to the site would involve vehicles slowing down and turning on a fast section of the A4103 and would compromise the safe movement and free flow of traffic.
