A FURIOUS mother, whose son died after mixing heroin and alcohol, has called for a crackdown on pushers in "drug infested" Malvern.

During an inquest into the death of Ross Mason, Worcestershire coroner Victor Round expressed concern over the high number of drug-related deaths he was dealing with, highlighting Malvern and Worcester as particular hotbeds.

But Mr Mason's mother Patricia Davis said it was always the victims who were frowned upon.

"I'm not saying Ross didn't do drugs but the pushers are always let off," she said. "They put on a show but they are just liars.

"Everyone in Malvern knows who is really responsible."

Mr Mason, of Pickersleigh Road, was found slumped in an armchair at his addict friend John Mason's flat in Cowleigh Road on Thursday, November 15, last year.

The epileptic slept on the chair after having a fit, maintaining he was all right, but was found dead 12 hours later.

During Wednesday's inquest, which revealed heroin, alcohol, cannabis and cocaine in Ross Mason's blood, a witness statement showed John Mason had injected his late friend with heroin the day before his death.

Mrs Davis said during Wednesday's inquest, she had felt completely helpless.

"Ross told me a few years ago he had taken heroin and tried to hang himself because it brought him down so low, but I had no idea of the extent of his problem," she said.

"Malvern is infested with drugs. I could go out now and get some if I wanted."

After hearing Mr Round's "frightening" statement, Worcester city councillor Mike Layland called for urgent action.

"We have known for some time we've got a massive problem in our area but drug users won't admit when they are out of control," he said. "We need a major campaign, including help for parents like Mrs Davis."
