A 16-YEAR-old boy was due to undergo surgery today after an axe attack in Hereford left him with serious facial injuries.

The teenager, who has not been named, was due to be operated on at Hereford General Hospital following last night's attack.

Police were called to Kestrel Road on the Newtown Farm estate around 10.25pm.

A 40-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing the injury and was due to be questioned today.

Police have recovered an axe from the scene and are appealing for witnesses to the incident, or anyone who has any information that may help with the inquiry, to contact them on 01432 276422.
