EVESHAM fought a hard battle against stiff opposition at Wolverhampton in the first round of the Nuneaton Swimming League.

The nine-year-old girls won both the medley and freestyle relay races thanks to Gemma Bass, Joanna Train, Stephanie Richardson, Leanne Pickering and Jessica Grove.

The 11-year-old girls won the freestyle relay with ease thanks to Sophie Dagnall, Jessica Wheatley, Justine Bennett and Clemence Rich. The same team were touched into second in the medley relay.

There was a first place for Clemence in the freestyle, a second for Sophie Dagnall in the backstroke and third for Justine Bennett in the butterfly.

Addie Hancock swam for a third place in the 11/u boys' freestyle and swam up to 12/u age group for a third in the individual backstroke.

The 12-year-old girls' freestyle team of Holly Burton, Natasha Beauchamp, Christie Foxall and Gemma Nichols swam to a fine first place and Holly, Natasha and Gemma were joined by Natalie Stockdale to take first in the medley relay event.

Holly achieved two seconds in the freestyle and backstroke individual events and Gemma swam to a first in the breaststroke and second in the butterfly.
