A FABULOUS all-round team effort earned Prince Henry's Under-15s place in the English Hockey Association's Plate final.

The glory girls will now feature in finals day the national Stadium in Milton Keynes on Saturday, May 19 when they will face Cambridge HC.

Jojo Barker was the toast of the team with two goals but the whole squad was on top form as Kings School, Warwick were overrun.

"It was a fantastic display by all the girls," said an elated Elaine Shepperd, head of PE at the Evesham school.

"They all worked ever so hard and created so many chances. The final scoreline really flattered Warwick.

"All out practising of the past couple of weeks really paid off with the two goals from short corners but we were stronger in every department with the defence again showing their resilience against a side that had scored around 40 goals in the tournament so far."

Barker opened the scoring after 15 minutes from a well-worked short corner routine and the striker doubled the lead midway through the second period from a similar set-piece.

However, a deflected shot left goalkeeper Harriet Perkins stranded to make it 2-1 but the Henry's girls dug in for the last ten minutes to secure a hard-fought success with captain Tori Southern an inspiration in midfield.

"They were just fantastic in the final few minutes as they counted down the clock by keeping the ball in the Warwick half," the teacher recalled.

"Even the umpire applauded the girls for the "professional way" that they dealt with the last few minutes and they thoroughly deserved their place in the final."

The full squad comprised Jojo, Harriet, Tori, Polly Christian, Lottie Russell, Kayleigh Hateley, Charlotte Benson-Wilson, Tasha Salter, Lora Richings, Katie Green, Dion Wilson, Lily Badger, Jo Beames, Lucy Tyrrell, Anna Howells, Kathy Hill and Fiona Burrows.
