A "dawn chorus" walk on Kinver Edge by Kidderminster branch members was rewarded by bird song from a tawny owl, blackcaps, willow warblers, treecreepers, mistle and song thrushes, and jays.

National Trust warden Edwin Blunt described work being carried out to reinstate the hill fort area to heathland, to attract wildlife.

The committee is in discussions with Paul Allen, Wyre Forest countryside officer, regarding members' involvement at the Hurcott reserve.

Paul will speak at the branch meeting on Wednesday, September 24.

In the meantime members are requested to record sightings to form the basis for an ongoing bird survey at the reserves, which will be encompassed in Worcestershire County Council's bio-diversity action plan.

A Walk in Wyre Forest will be led on Sunday by Rosemary Winnall, the Forestry Commission's education officer, meeting at Earnwood Copse car park at 2pm.
