EARLY nights are out for a Bewdley couple after they lost their battle to stop an adjoining terraced pub being granted a public entertainment licence.

Opposing the application by the licensees of The Rising Sun, Martyn Guest said noise from the pub had caused "major inconvenience" and "rows" at home.

But Wyre Forest District Council licensing and environmental committee approved the application, subject to conditions.

Mr Guest said when he and his partner Nikki Ward bought the house last year, the estate agents and nearby residents described the pub as a quiet drinking house.

But he said after moving in they found on some Saturday nights, amplified loud music was "blasted out".

This stopped them and visitors who included young children from being able to sleep.

He added: "We were surprised we were not notified by the licensing authority an application had been issued as our property is linked to the public house and most affected."

The application was opposed by the council's environmental health officers who dubbed it "unsuitable" as the adjoining wall with the house was only four-and-a-half inches thick.

They also objected to the bid on the grounds that the pub did not have a car park and there was "little or no off-street parking" available in the immediate vicinity.

The one-year licence will allow the licensees to stage live music on Fridays, Saturdays and Bank Holidays - except Sundays, after the original request to allow music every day was modified.
