VILLAGERS in Broadway are excitedly putting the finishing touches to a whole host of entertainment around the Queen's Jubilee.

Events start on Wednesday, May 29, and Thursday, 30, when resident Anne Prater will be presenting a concert commemorating the heady days between the building of the QE1 and the QE2. Her Music Makers, a 40-strong choir, will be performing in the Lifford Hall from 7.30pm each night.

For £6 a ticket, music lovers will be offered a patriotic musical celebration with a buffet supper.

Husband and parish councillor Richard Prater said: "This leads into the official Jubilee weekend of June 1 to 3, when we will have an arts exhibition on at the URC church at the top of the village. Tied in will be a flower festival at St Michael's church and an annual fete on the village green."

He said as soon as the fete is over at about 3.30pm, another excellent programme of events will be following, organised by Dottie Friedli.

Mrs Friedli said: "We will have country dancing by primary school children, a sing-song with the Darby and Joan club, at 4.20pm entertainment by pipers and accordion and a parade at 5pm."

Broadway Music Makers will be putting in an appearance at 6.15pm, while 'magicians mingle and mesmerise'. Later at 7pm the evening show will kick off with disco dancers, pipers and the ever-popular Merlyn Band, together with a pig roast, hot dogs and a Pimms bar.

Mr Prater added: "To round up what amounts to a whole month of entertainment, on June 13 Selina Jones will be on at the Lifford Hall followed by two nights on June 29 and 30 with a Jubilee concert by another local band, Billy Davis. We hope all the events we have organised for our residents will be well attended."
