A PORTRAIT of the former Conservative leader William Hague by a Kidderminster painter has gone on show at a prestigious exhibition in London.
The major oil painting, which is currently to be seen at The Mall Galleries, is the latest in a series of portraits of the great and good by John Edwards.
Previous subjects have included the Queen, Margaret Thatcher, actresses Helen Mirren and Penelope Keith, as well as former cricketer Colin Cowdrey.
The oil painting shows Mr Hague in his office at the House of Commons with a picture of William Pitt the Younger, Britain's youngest Prime Minister, in the background.
A member of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, Mr Edwards, 61, a former carpet designer, of Chester Road North, has been a professional artist since graduating from the Royal Academy in 1968.
The portrait was commissioned by the arts advisory committee of the House of Commons and will go on permanent display in Portcullis House, Westminster, after the exhibition.
