STAFF, pupils and governors at Bengeworth CE First School are celebrating an Ofsted report which said the school "provides very good value for money, where teaching is successful in providing a good quality of education."

The inspection team, which spent four days in the school, said that Bengeworth was "a very good school where pupils thoroughly enjoy their work. Their behaviour is very good because it is a happy school, where relationships are very good."

The report said that the pupils had very good attitudes to learning, enjoyed going to school and were very courteous and helpful to each other and the adults who worked with them.

David Braham, headteacher, said he was "very proud of the school's achievements," and praised staff, governors and parents who all supported the school's desire to give a quality education to all the children.

"Bengeworth School is a happy, caring and delightful place to be, where everyone works together to give of their best. No head could ask for more."

The Ofsted team found that pupils were on line to achieve levels well above the national average when they left the school, and Mr Braham said progress made at the school was due to the hard work and commitment of the teachers who delivered high quality and challenging lessons every day and were ably supported by a team of 10 teaching assistants.

The team observed 54 lessons, none of which was less than satisfactory with 76 per cent good or better. The inspectors said what could be improved were reports, "barely satisfactory in quality and do not provide enough detail about what pupils know, understand and can do in each subject."

Chairman of governors Janet Osborne said: "Governors and staff are delighted with our excellent report, which was closely followed by the news that the school has received a School Achievement Award for the second year running - a double whammy."

County councillor Clive Holt, a governor for 14 years, said: "It is gratifying that all the commitment and hard work by the head, staff and governors has reaped a just reward in this excellent report."
