Moreton Rgrs U-12 4,

Launton 0

MORETON Rangers clinched the double at the weekend following their 4-0 win over Launton in this year's Witney and District Knock-out Cup final.

An early goal by Mark Magee put the league champions in the driving seat though continual pressure from the Launton side kept Moreton on their toes throughout the first period in this evenly contested match.

The second half saw Launton dominate the game with relentless pressure, and only good fortune and skilful defending prevented them gaining the equaliser.

Rangers then had to move up a gear and, when Jon Geekie fired home after 15 minutes into the second period, the tide turned and it was Moreton who began to dominate the game.

Shortly afterwards, Magee claimed his second and a brilliant long-range strike from Brad Spedding just before the final whistle put the icing on the cake.

At the whistle it was Rangers who lifted the cup and credit has to go to all 15 players who, over the season have done magnificently along with their coaches Martin Newman and Brian Millard who have done so much to bring the team their well deserved success.

Cumnor 0,

Moreton Rvrs U-12 4

WITH their resources stretched to the limit, the 11 who did play showed good spirit to win this game.

Having lost to Cumnor narrowly earlier in the season this was always going to be a close encounter but Rovers defended very well.

This gave them the opportunity to build from the solid back line and Josh Collins forced home a cross to give them the lead at half-time.

Player of the match Ben Taylor, who had marshalled the defence so well, then volleyed home from the edge of the area to confirm the points for Moreton.

Liam Cantwell hit a fine shot to make it three and Adam Dalleywater, who had ran his socks off up front, claimed the fourth.

Chipping Campden U-14 0,

Peopleton 10

LEA Miller bagged a hat-trick in the opening ten minutes to set Peopleton on the way to an emphatic win.

Andy Lamb and Luke Frankum then both scored twice to give the visitors a 7-0 interval lead.

Campden never looked as if they were going to score against the side with one of the best defensive records in the division and the Peopleton defenders became hungry for goals themselves and Scott Hughes scored the eighth with a glorious solo strike.

Miller capped a fine individual show with his fourth and fifth goals to move to within one of the 50-mark for the season.

The second half continued at a furious pace and Ryan Clarke played a great ball out of defence to Phil Davis who held the ball up for his supplier, who had run the full length of the pitch, to finish with a drive from ten yards.

There were no further goals and Littleton will look back on another successful season where they have remained unbeaten in the league with great pride.

Yarnton 3, Evesham Utd U-11 7

UNITED completed their Witney League campaign with a lively away victory against previous title challengers Yarnton.

The game was almost over at half-time with Evesham 4-0 up. Tom Adam Miles, Rob Andrew (2) and a free-kick from Scott Andrews were the scorers among numerous other chances.

In the second half Evesham went 5-0 up when Ben Parry was brought down inside the area and he converted the penalty himself.

Evesham then hit a bad patch as Yarnton found some form to respond with three goals in seven minutes. But at 5-3, Parry was sent clear by Jon Wein and he squeezed the ball past the goalkeeper. A fierce shot by Adam Styles completed the win for the champions.

Evesham Utd U-14 3,

Newtown Spts 3

UNITED wrapped up their season with a fine display against their championship chasing opponents.

Evesham opened the scoring when Sean Fensome netted from close-range but Newtown kept pushing forward and were rewarded with an equaliser before the break.

The second half started with a flurry of goals as Kevin Miles struck twice to make it 3-1 to the home side.

However, they failed to halt a rampant Sports attack hitting back to score twice and earn a draw thanks to a penalty kick.

United worked hard throughout and solid defensive play from Daniel Rock and Dean Kerr ensured the hosts ended the season on something of a high.
