Clevedon Tn 0, Evesham Utd 0

UNITED ended a disappointing season with a decent performance in a goalless draw at the Hand Stadium.

Full credit to the visitors for gaining a well deserved point, especially after having Andy Smith sent off after only ten minutes, for striking out at Steve Lester.

United gave the captain's armband to Russell Parmenter who announced before the kick-off that he was to retire after the game.

Soon after Smith's dismissal, Steve Lutz headed Phil Preedy's free-kick against the crossbar and then Lee Ross dragged his shot wide after an inch perfect pass from Preedy.

Clevedon keeper Jason Matthews distinguished himself on the stroke of half-time, when he made a brilliant finger-tip save to deny the dangerous Preedy.

The second half was a poor spectacle but United still carved out the best chances.

Shane Duff headed Preedy's corner the wrong side of an upright and Matthews gathered well from Preedy.

The club is staging trials later this month with the intention of forming a women's team to play in the newly formed county league next season.

There will be three workshops on Thursday nights, May 16, 23 and 30 all at Common Road starting at 7.30pm.

FA qualified coaches will be taking the sessions that are available to budding females aged 15 and over. Ring Brian Greig on 01386 40751 for more details.
