A MAN suffered a broken jaw after being punched outside a Kidderminster nightclub by a house husband who was on a rare night out with friends.

Andrew Minard made a complimentary remark about Mark Baggott's girlfriend inside Redwoods.

But outside the club, at about 1am, words were exchanged between the two men and Minard lashed out twice at the victim, prosecutor Martin Butterworth told Worcester Crown Court.

Mr Baggott needed surgery and had a plate and screws inserted into his jaw but made a full recovery.

Minard, 31, of Stretton Road, Kidderminster, pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm. He was sentenced to 120 hours unpaid community work.

Defence barrister Richard Carron said Minard's wife was a care home manager and he looked after their two children, five and 10, and carried out all the domestic tasks.

Minard made his remark about Rachel Saunders and was told by Mr Baggott that she was with him, said Mr Butterworth.

Outside, the defendant repeatedly told Mr Baggott to go away before punching him in the face.

Minard told police he was very drunk, caused by a combination of alcohol and anti-depressants.

He insisted the victim was "in his face" and had an attitude problem so he took "a swipe" at him.

The prospect of jail for such a serious offence had hung over the defendant for a long time, said Mr Carron.

Going out was a rare treat but he had been taking tablets for a month which had reacted badly with the drink.
