VANDALS left a trail of destruction after boarding a river cruiser in Stourport before smashing benches on the deck and hurling fire extinguishers overboard.

The 120-seat River King was moored under the main bridge in the town when the attack began. Youths climbed over fences around the jetty to board the boat which was unmanned.

The attackers also smashed their way through a door and made off with alcoholic drinks worth about £30. In all, the cost of the damage is estimated at £400.

Trevor May, of the Stourport Steamer Company, said the attack was only the latest in a series and his firm would be stepping up security.

Repairs were carried out following the incident at 6.10pm on Sunday and the River King was back in business by Monday afternoon.

Three people were arrested close to the scene and have been released on bail.

Kidderminster Police are appealing with anyone with any information to contact them on 01562 820888.
