CYCLING: Teenager Liam Preece was robbed of a National British Schools Cycling Association 10 mile Time Trial Championship at Lichfield by an administrative error.

The Wyre Forest Cycle Racing Club 15-year-old was put into the wrong age group by organisers, meaning he finished fourth rather than first.

Forest are appealing to the BSCA on behalf of Preece who rode tremendously for a personal best 24 minutes 18 seconds on a tough course.

Preece was fifth fastest junior at the Rudy Project National Time Trial the previous weekend near Lake Windermere.

He rode an undulating 27-mile course in a fine one hour 14 minutes 22 seconds for a great result despite being the youngest by two years.

Club-mate Andy Willetts came home in 1-11-21.

A large contingent from Wyre Forest rode the Stourbridge CC 10-mile Time Trial at Wythall with A Willetts finishing fourth in his category and Bill Picton ending up third quickest veteran.

Times: Geoff Willetts 28-54, Steve Burns 22-13, Len Holbeche 23-52, Rich Picton 25-34, A Willetts 23-30, Mick Gray 29-32, B Picton 27-17, Tony Richardson 23-55.

Wyre Forest competitor Joe Rowe was in form in two 40-mile road races at Claverdon, finishing fourth in the first contest after a bunch sprint.

In the second, he fared much better and remained in the bunch until the last lap when he launched a fierce finish to take second overall and a comfortable first in his category.

Fellow Forest cyclist Paul Prince finished sixth in a 40-mile circuit race at Bruntingthorpe Airfield in Leicestershire.

Prince's efforts to escape were thwarted by a fast-moving bunch but he eventually moved away in a smaller group before the final sprint.
