A SCHEME to tackle crime and disorder in Droitwich and the surrounding area will be launched tomorrow.

The Wychavon Crime and Disorder Plan for 2002 to 2006 is to be unveiled in Pershore by Margaret Geary, Home Office regional crime reduction director

The project aims to help tackle crime in Droitwich and other Wychavon towns.

Following a recent audit in the area, which highlighted residents' concerns about crime, an action group is set to be established.

The Community Action Group, involving residents, will deal with issues ranging from property and domestic crime to crime in rural areas and drug abuse.

"I'm pleased that, after so much hard work and consultation, we're able to show how we can keep this area safe by working together," said Alan Paul, Wychavon's community safety officer.

"To have a senior Home Office official launching the plan makes the event even more special and demonstrates the importance attached to it by local and central governments."
