A MOTORIST made 17 threatening phone calls to another driver after they were involved in a road accident.

Ian Kyle admitted making a threat to kill David Kaner and to putting him in fear of violence.

Mr Kaner, of Stockton-on-Teme, near Stourport, received the messages on his mobile phone's voice mail service between September 26 and October 1 last year, Worcester Crown Court heard.

Kyle, aged 49, admitted the offences on the day he was due to stand trial.

Prosecutor Andrew Wallis asked for three other counts of threatening revenge to lie on the file.

Kyle, who defended himself after dismissing his counsel, said he did not wish to cause Mr Kaner further distress by having to give evidence to a jury.

The defendant, of Penarfyndd, Aberech, Pwllheli, north Wales was granted bail to obtain medical and pre-sentence reports. He was ordered not to contact the victim or any other prosecution witnesses.

The charges - which carry a maximum penalty of 10 years' jail - specify that Mr Kaner feared violence against himself or his family after receiving 17 phone calls.
