POLICE have appealed for witnesses to an unprovoked verbal and physical attack on a blind man in Malvern.

The 22 year-old man, who lives in the town, was subjected to the attack in Pound Bank Road between 12.30 and 1.30pm last Friday, April 19 after becoming separated from his girlfriend.

The man, who is virtually blind, had been walking along with his girlfriend and a child in a pram but she left him standing on the side of the road by a bus stop to go and retrieve something that had fallen from the pram.

He was then approached by at least two men who verbally abused him over the fact he was blind and shoved him in the back.

Police spokeswoman Kim Stain said he was also hit on the right side and face and although extremely shaken did not require treatment.

The man has not been able to give any description of the attackers to police.

Added Ms Stain: "We are keen to speak to anyone. There were definitely two people, males, involved because the man heard two voices. But there is the possibility that there might be a third person."

Anyone with information should contact police on 01905 723888 quoting reference number c/579610.
