CHIPPING Campden School's Year 11 football team have been crowned Cheltenham and District champions.

Having overcome Bourneside and Tewkesbury on the way to a final against Cleeve at Cheltenham Civil Service, Campden started well and Rupert Price slotted in a penalty.

It was 2-0 moments later when Chris Mills fired home but The Cotswold school needed all their determination and the inspirational play of goalkeeper Grant Taylor, to stave off a late rally particularly after they had pulled a goal back.

The Year Seven side rounded off a successful first season with a 7-3 walloping of local rivals Cotswold School. Tom Corby scored four times.

The Year Eight side, though, have found it tough and lost all three games to Cleeve (4-1), Bourneside (3-0) and Alcester GS (8-0).

Year Eight's hockey squad finished third at the Cheltenham Tournament after finishing in the same position after the pool matches at the Gloucestershire Mini tournament.

Cheryl Price scored all her side's goals in both events. Defeats at the hands of Pates and Cleeve and goalless draws against Archway and Stroud earned Campden a date with Cheltenham Ladies College when another goalless affair saw them finish fifth overall.

Abbey Tugwood was in good form the next day as the side lost just one game out of four at Cheltenham. A goal from Price earned them their only win - 1-0 against St Benedict's.

The Year Seven rugby squad ended a brilliant season with convincing away wins at Alcester Grammar and Gloucester hosts, Crypt.

The double made it five wins out of five with the 53-0 demolition of Crypt a fitting finale. Alcester, though, had their revenge at first XV level when a depleted Campden side lost 19-7.

The Year 11 squad bowed out of the Floodlit Cup at the semi-final hurdle when Burford triumphed 17-0.
