FORMER champion jockey Jack Fowler who was recently honoured for his 50-year association with the Chaddesley point to point meeting died on Sunday aged 89.
Mr Fowler, of Hanbury, won 16 races at the Chaddesley fixture between 1933 and 1954 and won the Lady Dudley Gold Cup in 1953 and again the following year.
Grandson Michael Keel, of Kidderminster, who won his first Members Race at Saturday's Chaddesley meeting riding Caught at Dawn, said his success felt "a bit special and a bit spooky". He said his grandfather had won seven Members Races as a jockey and four as an owner at Chaddesley. He had been ill all week but survived to see him bring home his trophy.
Worcestershire Point-to-Point Members Committee recently presented Mr Fowler by with a bronze statue.
The funeral service for Mr Fowler is at 2.30pm on Monday at Hanbury Church.
