A SOLITARY strike from Paul Jones earned Bretforton the narrowest of wins at Henley Forest on Saturday to secure the Journal Premier Division title.

Campden Town did what they had to do with a 4-2 defeat of FISSC in their final game but the Old Boys are now untouchable at the summit.

The top two locked horns in the quarter-final of the R M Smith Cup on Tuesday with Jones again on the mark in a 3-2 win for Old Boys. Needlemakers earned a walkover to the last four at the expense of Badsey Rangers.

Redditch Borough completed a profitable three days in Herald Division One with a 5-1 defeat of Claverdon OB to move into second place.

Adam Orr and Steve Evans both scored twice to make it six points from two games after Borough's 3-2 win over Needlemakers Lions last Thursday - the champions' first reverse of the league campaign.

Lions recovered to see off the stiff challenge of Long Compton on Saturday and book a date with Alcester Lions in the Alun Rees Trophy final. Adie Smith grabbed the crucial goal.

The Alcester side defeated Badsey United 3-0 a couple of days after overcoming Spartak Park 5-1 in a Nursing Home Cup quarter-final replay.

They then followed up with victory in Tuesday's Division Two Knockout Cup final. Keith Beasley scoring twice in a 3-0 defeat of Ilmington.
