TENANTS of Wyre Forest Community Housing have received a letter indicating that it is intended to recruit street wardens in our area to combat anti-social behaviour and a charge of 72p per fortnight is proposed to cover this.
The same letter also states 71 per cent were in favour of the proposal. Considering that roughly two thirds of the people approached are on benefits and, therefore, not able to subscribe, this is hardly surprising.
At first it might appear to be a fair proportion, but why is it necessary?
Current legislation covers anti-social behaviour, so it should be up to the courts, the police and local authorities to deal with this.
We already pay taxation at various levels to cover this so why are we funding a supernumerary group to supplement a police function?
