HORSE RIDING: Kidderminster jockey Michael Keel was in the saddle as Caught at Dawn won the Members race at Saturday's Worcestershire Point-to-Point meeting at Chaddesley Corbett.

They were never in danger of defeat after seeing off the challenge of Andre Lavel turning the home straight.

It was the second win of the season for the owner, 15-year-old Hindlip schoolboy Tom Weston who plans to start race riding next year.

Keel's grandfather, Jack Fowler, won 16 races at this fixture between 1933 and 1954 and a presentation was made to the family to mark his 50-year association with the meeting.

This was made all the more poignant as Fowler died during the early hours of Sunday morning.

Greenwich extended his six-race winning sequence when he beat Lord Harry to win the main race, the Lady Dudley Cup.

A capacity crowd saw one of the best competitions in recent years and Greenwich had to fight hard to land the trophy, one of the most prestigious prizes the sport has to offer.

Robert Biddlecombe's mount stormed into a lead at the 15th and by the time he entered the home straight, Greenwich was six lengths clear and had sufficient reserves to withstand Lord Harry's challenge over the final three fences.

Marilyn Scudamore took three runners to the meeting from her Naunton stables and had a great day.

As well as Greenwich taking the cup in the colours of Jenny Powell, Gypsy Cricketer gained an impressive victory in the Restricted and Zaffaran Winds beat favourite Frog Street in the Mares race.

Biddlecombe took the advantage on Gypsy Cricketer at the 15th and had little difficulty seeing off the challenge of Mick Mackie over the final three fences.

He also rode the seven-year-old Zaffaran Winds to her surprise win in the Mares race.

Frog Street lost vital ground up the final hill and by the time she responded her rival had too great a lead to be caught.

The winner is jointly owned by the trainer and her son Michael who was unable to attend due to commitments for the Gloucestershire U-19s rugby team.
