THE Kidderminster Jubilee Fireworks Appeal being run by the Shuttle/Times and News has made "a roaring start" - literally!

Businesses and individuals are being asked to contribute to the biggest fireworks extravaganza ever seen in the town on Monday, June 3.

And West Midland Safari Park has kicked off the appeal with a cheque for £500. keeper Angela Potter with white tiger Queenie at West Midland Safari Park which has backed the fireworks appeal.

A park spokesman said: "We are delighted to be able to support the town's efforts and hope other businesses will enter into the jubilee spirit by helping out in any way they can."

The fireworks show will be free - all folk have to do is turn up and watch from the town centre streets.

But they also have a chance to play a direct part in the Queen's Golden Jubilee celebrations - and get their name into a souvenir issue of the Shuttle/Times and News.

All those making donations to the fireworks appeal will have their name published in a roll of honour in a special jubilee edition on Thursday, June 6.

And they will also receive a certificate to mark their support.

It is an opportunity for businesses, pubs, clubs, schools and other organisations as well as individuals to back the celebrations.

A Kidderminster Jubilee Partnership spokesman said: "This spectacular fireworks display will be free on the night so we hope people will give us a little backing to help us lay it on.

"The safari park has given us a tremendous start and we have also had donations from a number of individuals.

"One lady sent us £5 on behalf of her three-year-old grandson so that his name goes in the newspaper roll of honour. It will be a souvenir for him when he grows up.

"We hope others will follow suit."
