A VILLAGE common needs its grass cut more than once a year to deter fly-tippers and provide children with somewhere to play, a resident has urged.

At least one end of Kerswell Green Common should be kept tidy because it is in "desperate need of TLC", Eileen Bridges told Kempsey's annual parish meeting.

Pete Copson, chairman of the commons and hams sub-committee, said work on the area between Kerswell Green and the bend by The Nash was due to be done before September.

And parish chairman Joy Clee said the council would consider whether it was possible to cut a portion of the Common more frequently than once a year.

Mrs Bridges also said the planning permission granted to Kinnersley Engineering for a new workshop at Kerswell Green meant the development was being "foisted" on a peaceful, pleasant spot.

District councillor Mike Biddle explained to the meeting that there was a long history to the latest planning permission.

Enforcement action originally taken by Malvern Hills District Council to restrict the firm's use of a farmyard at Kerswell Green had been overturned in the High Court.
