A WOMAN whose car toppled on its side after it hit a tree during this morning's rush hour had to be rescued by firefighters.

The woman's Peugeot 205 landed on its side after it careered into a tree on the A449 near the Chatley turning, north of Claines.

The engine landed behind the hatchback in the trees.

Two fire engines from Worcester and one from Droitwich attended the accident, which happened at around 9am.

"We had to prevent the car from rolling over," said Alec Mackie, spokesman for Hereford and Worcester Fire Brigade.

"We had to get her out on a spinal board, but I don't think she was badly injured."

Mr Mackie said firefighters took just a few minutes to rescue the woman from her car.

"The woman was the only person in the car," he said. "We managed to stabilise the car and make it safe. She was pulled out safely and taken to hospital."
