PATIENTS and carers who have used cancer services in Worcestershire are being asked where they would like to see money spent to improve standards of care in the NHS.

South Worcestershire Primary Care Trust (PCT) has called a meeting with the intention of setting up a new patients' forum.

"We need patients to be involved in how we can improve the service and the standard of care," said Dr Richard Whitmore, chairman of the professional executive committee for South Worcestershire PCT.

"Although a wide range of health professionals are involved in planning services, including GPs, hospital doctors, specialists in chemotherapy and radiotherapy and Macmillan nurses, these teams still need advice from cancer patients and their carers if services are to be of the highest standard in the county."

The evening will begin with a series of short talks, including one by Rosemary Williams, a commissioning manager for the PCT, explaining how cancer services are organised.

Discussions will also be held on how people would like to become involved and hopefully set up a patients' forum.

The meeting will begin with a buffet at 6.30pm on Tuesday, May 14, at University College, Worcester.

Anyone wanting to put their name forward for the meeting or who wants further details can call 01905 760054 or email Rosemary.Williams@wha.worcester-ha.wmids.nhs.uk.
