POLICE are warning motorists to be careful when selling vehicles after a car was stolen by a potential buyer.

A sports car was stolen in Bath Road, Worcester, when a man was taking a man out for a test drive in the car at around 4.05pm on Monday.

The man was involved in a minor collision outside the Shell garage, and when he got out to look at the damage, the potential buyer drove the blue Vauxhall Calibra coup in the direction of the Ketch pub.

Police believe a white Peugeot 406, which was behind the Calibra, was involved in the theft.

"We would urge drivers to be aware of this incident and not to allow anyone to be in your vehicle alone, no matter what the circumstances are," said crime risk manager PC Mike Stephenson.

"It only takes a few seconds for you to become distracted and for them to steal your car."

Anyone with information about the theft of the car, registration J90 CAB, should call police on 01905 723888, quoting c/579671, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 565511
