Oakenshaw racer Enzo Mucci finished a creditable 13th in the latest round of the Renault Clio Cup after a tragedy-hit weekend.
Hours before the first qualifying session at Oulton Park, Mucci's stepfather died of a heart attack while moving house.
Mucci decided to go ahead with the second round and dedicated his result to his devastated family.
After qualifying 25th out of 31, Mucci started well back on the grid with teammate Spencer Griffiths 19th.
But the determined driver, sponsored by Mario's Pizzacasa, climbed the field, overtaking Griffiths with four laps to go before finishing one place ahead of his teammate.
Round Three of the cup is at Thruxton on Sunday, May 5 and Monday 6.
