HOBSON'S Choice is one of those delightful plays which you come across again and again over the years...and you don't mind one little bit.

Currently being performed at the Malvern Festival Theatre until this Saturday it once again did not disappoint.

It's quite a touching comedy and its author,Harold Brighouse, as do the cast of this latest production, deserved the warm applause that was evident on the first night.

Obviously Mr Brighouse is no longer with us, he died in the late 1950s, but his classic legacy of life with a touch of humour in the harsh times of Victorian Salford retains all its charm.

He wrote the play in 1915 and it is still as fresh as ever.

Hobson himself is played by the veteran, Tony Britton, but even he is overshadowed by Michael Begley, who made sure the boot was on the right foot as Willie.

His performance is complemented by Katharine Rogers, as the manipulating Maggie.

Recommended.
