CCTV in Wythall could be in place quicker than expected if councillors decide to part-fund cameras.
Wythall parish Councillor Geoff Denaro suggested the idea to speed up the process of getting the first CCTV camera in the village.
Speaking at a council meeting on Thursday, Mr Denaro said: "If we met some of the costs and Bromsgrove Council met the balance, we could push the bid forward and get something moving rather than sitting back.
"I don't have the figures at the moment but if we know what it costs, it could be something we could look into."
But the idea came up against some strong opposition.
Councillor Ken Footman said: "I think that would be double taxation again.
"We have some money in the bank but I would rather see that go towards worthier causes in the parish rather than something which Bromsgrove Council is responsible for."
Parish council clerk Pat Harrison said the village was at the top of Bromsgrove Council's list to get CCTV.
