CROPTHORNE racer, James Calado, competed in the opening round of this year's British Kart Championships.

The 12-year-old's late entry into the Champions of the Future event saw him race in a completely different class with a completely new race team and with no testing experience.

As predicted, the 2001 British Cadet champion adapted well in the Formula Rotax class and displayed his renowned ability by registering a trio of heat wins with three fastest lap times.

The youngster completed an almost perfect day when he finished second in the meeting's final event.

Calado, one of British motor sport's brightest prospects, will be contesting all the remaining rounds of the Champions of the Future series in addition to the Super One National Championships in Formula TKM.
