PARISH COUNCIL: Report from the latest meeting.

Cemetery: Much of the work on integrating the land at the rear of the cemetery has been carried out by contractors. The yew tree at the end of the pathway has had to be removed, other yew trees have had to be trimmed and the old boundary trees and fence to the west have been removed. It is hoped that the remaining work to remove the old iron fence to the east and re-seeding can be undertaken as soon as is practical.

Highways: Concern continues to be expressed at the poor state of Ryden Lane, particularly with the increasing number of potholes and councillors were pleased to hear that the highways department will be attending to this problem during the summer. It is noted that the alterations to the road signs on the A44 have been done and the additional signage in Boston Lane and Yessell Lane should be implemented shortly.

Evesham-Pershore Cycle Route: Through the Market Towns Forum the earlier scheme for a cycle route between Evesham and Pershore has been resurrected and it has been put forward from Advantage West Midlands. The route passes through Charlton parish, but the route still has to be surveyed fully to ensure that there is continuous cycleway for its whole length. It is proposed that this route uses Ryden Lane and this may have the effect of ensuring that the surface is improved.

Flood Alleviation: The parish council was pleased to note that further work to clear the Merry Brook watercourse is progressing.

Throckmorton Airfield: Charlton PC resolved to support the parish councils directly affected by the proposal for the airfield in their objections to the site being used as a base for asylum seekers.
