BROMSGROVE'S Court Leet Bailiff David Turner will be at the forefront of two major attractions which take place in June.
As Bailiff David, from Finstall, will lead the traditional fair day parade through the town on June 22 when the Court Leet carries out its time-honoured ceremonies in High Street and on the Receation Ground.
And the following Saturday David will be joined by his wife Avery at the head of the carnival procession as it wends its way through the streets from the Recreation Ground to the gala in Sanders Park.
The couple have been chosen by the carnival committee who thought it appropriate in the Queen's jubilee year to find a couple who are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.
David, who organised the popular fair day street market for the court for many years before becoming Reeve and then Bailiff last autumn, said he and Avery were delighted to accept the committee's invitation.
The couple married in Northfield and after a spell living in Rubery moved to Bromsgrove in 1971. David is the oldest serving member of the hospital carnival committee, which raises cash for patient welfare and comfort at the Princess of Wales Hospital.
Carnival committee chairman Jeff Evans, from Aston Fields, said: "I am delighted they have agreed to lead the parade. David has done a lot of work raising cash for the committee, it is therefore very appropriate that he and Avery should lead the procession."
