A CHARFORD mum is looking to raise pots of cash to help revamp the local Scout hut, which has become an easy target for vandals.

Julie Grazier, of Lyttleton Avenue, is spearheading the campaign to raise funds to make the hut a better place for youngsters.

Her two sons, seven-year-old Ryan and nine-year-old Ashley, regularly attend Cub and Beaver sessions at the Charford Road hut.

"At the moment the windows are boarded up and every time we go down there something else has been damaged or smashed," she said.

Julie is part of a parents committee which has been running for around eight months. The concerned parents have already written to DIY giant B&Q and The National Lottery to inquire about a grant.

"We would like to start by putting a new fence around the hut, which will hopefully deter vandals - but this could cost up to £4,000," said Julie.

The parents would also like to be able to have new windows fitted and improve the hut on the inside, as well as the outside.

"We are looking for generous townspeople and local companies to come forward and donate money to help spruce up the hut," she added.

To get the ball rolling Julie has organised a car boot and tabletop sale, which will be held at the hut on Saturday, April 27.

She is hoping a revamped hut will tempt older children to get involved in a Scout group too. If you are interested in donating some money to help improve the Charford Scout hut contact Julie on 01527 577181.
