A KIDDERMINSTER man will be pounding the streets of the capital this Sunday to help secure a better future for homeless people in Ethiopia.

John Sutton, 29, is running the London Marathon with three colleagues from Bromford Housing Association, where he works in Worcester.

Money raised - and he hopes for a £1,750-haul - will go towards funds collected by the company over the last 18-months for Concern Worldwide, which will help people in the Ethiopian capital who lost their homes in a slum fire.

"We're going to try to run around together, and stay together for moral support but with 30,000 people on the start line actually meeting up with one another will be difficult," said Mr Hutton.

With a 20-mile road race under his belt and a training programme that has seen him complete five miles-a-week Mr Hutton is confident of meeting the challenge.

But he added: "I'm not bothered about the time. I just want to get over the finish line, even if I have to crawl over!"

His company decided to support Concern Worldwide after a representative gave a talk to the firm over two years ago, and it aims to raise £60,000 for the international aid agency.
